About the Site

The East Coast Boardwalk, located under the Island Eastern Corridor, is about 2.2 kilometres long and is divided into eastern and western sections, linking up the harbourfront from Fortress Hill to Quarry Bay.

The western section, which was set to open first in January 2025, is about 1.1 kilometres long and comprises the 700-metre boardwalk connecting the East Coast Park Precinct and the North Point Promenade, and the 400-metre enhanced North Point Promenade. The eastern section, which was later open in December 2025, connects the North Point Promenade and Hoi Yu Street in Quarry Bay, realizing the vision of“Seamless Boardwalk Linking Island West and East”.

The East Coast Boardwalk is a “Harbourfront Shared Space” with a “shared path” for the public to carry out various activities such as walking, jogging, cycling, etc., creating a more vibrant and diverse atmosphere. An exclusive pedestrian pathway is also available to provide an additional option for the public.

Another feature of the Boardwalk is the movable bascule bridge and the movable swing bridge, introduced for the first time in Victoria Harbour. These bridges allow vessels to access the coastal waters bounded by the Boardwalk when necessary, maintaining accessibility of the Boardwalk while accommodating operational needs. The movable bridges will stay connected under normal conditions to ensure smooth pedestrian flow.

There are 8 themed areas along the entire East Coast Boardwalk, 4 of which are located in the western section, including the Sun Wave, Play Wave, Fish Wave, and Gather Wave. The other 4 themed areas are located in the eastern section, including the Pet Wave, Sky Wave, Art Wave and Wave Hub.

Other facilities on the Boardwalk include cascade seating for watching the sunset, a play area, fitness equipment, a fishing platform, an experiential glass observatory deck and a series of multi-functional open spaces suitable for hosting exhibitions, art and community activities. On the other hand, the Tong Shui Road Public Pier has been preserved and revitalized, and the North Point Promenade has been enhanced to include more open areas and leisure facilities. The Boardwalk is a pet-friendly venue. Visitors are welcome to bring along their pets on leashes.

The planning of the East Coast Boardwalk project commenced in 2009. After years of public engagement, it was eventually decided that under this project, the space beneath the Island Eastern Corridor was ingeniously utilised to construct such a critical harbourfront facility in order to overcome environmental barriers with an innovative design which defines the shoreline of Hong Kong Island North.

Except for the movable swing bridge and the experiential glass observatory deck, which will open from 6am to 11pm and from 10am to 6am respectively, the East Coast Boardwalk will open 24 hours a day.
